At the end of a year most of us look back and ponder our accomplishments and failures. We take a quick inventory of our life and determine where we are on the pathway to our individual destinations. But we often forget to look around us at the life of others. How was 2008 for your family, friends, co-workers, etc? Did they accomplish their goals or did they have a year full of disappointments? God not only wants to do things for you, He wants to do things through you. Maybe you have the answer or encouraging word someone needs? It only takes one little person to make a big splash in the life of someone else.
Years ago there was a revival meeting going on and only 38 people showed up to listen to this famous preacher. He preached his heart out regardless of the small number in the audience. At the end he gave an altar call and said, “Jesus wants to save somebody.” They were playing that old hymn, “Just as I am without one plea….” One scrawny dude from Carolina came forward and gave his life to Jesus. The preacher may have been thinking, “Only one skinny kid? This revival is a bust!” But that scrawny kid was Billy Graham, the greatest evangelist of our time.
Who have you passed by this year that you could have influenced? Who have you missed because you were so caught up in your own agenda? The Bible says you reap what you sow. If you have a dream in your heart that you want to accomplish, start looking for someone that you can help to acheive their dream. God wants 2009 to be an amazing year for both you and those around you. This year, determine to be a little person who really does make big waves.
